Letter to Disciples No. 252: PRAISEWORTHY WORKERS (Những người lao động đáng quý)

Letter to Disciples No. 252: PRAISEWORTHY WORKERS
Dear disciples!
The anual celebration of May Day (May 1, 2018) gave me some ideas about human labor. The evolution of human beings and the development of the society have inherently classified the working class into two categories, including: manual labor (ordinary) and mental labor (professional). Since the early history of mankind, there also exists another type of labor: spiritual labor, which the clergy holds a monopoly. This type of labor refers to those who practice worshiping supernatural entities in different religions. Two thousand years later, another type of labor has been defined from the Buddha’s propagation of his doctrine – it is “liberal labor”.

Master Thinley Nguyen Thanh – Director of ITA

It is said that mental work cannot be done by manual workers and vice versa. Heretic clergymen alone hold a monopoly in doing spiritual activities (spiritual labor) that goes beyond the reach of the first two types. In the Buddha’s time in India, only the Brahmana had the right to practice spiritual rites. Same as for today! However, the popularization of Buddhism has blown this old tradition out of the water as any social classes can become liberal labor under Buddhism. The Buddha taught that necessary and sufficient conditions for a person to act as liberal worker comprise eighteen freedoms and supportive conditions. These conditions, which have nothing related to social class, social segment, descent, race, or nation, include:

It is extremely rare to attain a human body that covers all these conditions

Eight freedoms from being reborn:

1/ in Hell realm

2/ in Hungry Ghosts realm

3/ in Animals realm

4/ in Bhrava and Deva (long-life God) realm

5/ in a barbaric country

6/ as the non-belief in causation karma

7/ in a time when there is no teaching of Dharma available, and

8/ with an impaired or damaged thought that fails to meet with or practices Dharma.

Ten supportive conditions include:

1/ One is born in a human body
2/ One is born in a region where the Buddha’s teachings are accessible
3/ All of one’s senses are intact.
4/ One does not have wrong views
5/ One has faith in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

Stepping along with mantra recitation

These first five are internal factors. The remaining five are external factors:

6/ One was born in the time when a Buddha has appeared
7/ The Buddha has given teachings
8/ These teachings have been preserved and remained accessible
9/ One grasps and practices these teachings
10/ One meets a Tantric Guru who accepts him as disciple

I am blissful enough to attain all these advantages. Yet, impermanent occurrences will make me waste this precious life and cause the rebirth into other realms of existence.

How precious it is as any followers in Song Nguyen Tantra House, regardless of manual, mental or spiritual workers, are able to work for liberation. This is illustrated by bright examples in our House: from Mat Nhung in Binh Dinh Province and Mat Duc and Mat Tich in Kien Giang Province who have not completed secondary school to Mat Tu who has recently got a scholarship from the reputable Swedish Institute (SI); from a poor follower like Mat Y in Phu Yen Province to the well-off one like Mat Tue Vien in Hai Phong City; or from the farmer like Mat Y in Phu Yen Province to State official like Mat Tue Phuc in Buon Me Thuot City, etc. All can become liberal worker. I would like to send my warmest welcome to the following freshmen who take the first step in rehearsing liberal works (before official practice):

Dear disciples!

Guru was explaining the meaning of holy titles: “Sư phạm Kim cang Đạo sư Quán độ chúng” (A Vajra Guru who owns pedagogical approaches to sentient beings based on their capacities) and “Hỗ dụng Kim cang Không hành nữ” (A Vajra Dakini who supports the Guru in Dharma propagation).

I highly appreciate the virtue and blessing of 16 persons who are given Dharma name as well as the rest of the readers who visit chanhtuduy.com or matgiasongnguyen.net. Whoever you are, whatever the family you were born into, whatever nation you might belong or whatever your education is, all have an equal opportunity to practice for liberation. Those who own Dharma name should send an email to [email protected] requesting for log-in account which provides full personal information. Guru is my guide

    Buddha is my life

    Dharma is my way

    Sangha is my Spirit

Respected Guruji, I bow my head at the lotus feet of Guruji.

The noteworthy point in this letter is, apart from already existing two categories of which are monopolies of certain types of people, namely, 1). Ordinary manual labor group and 2). Professional mental labor group, another type of labor group which is defined as ” Liberal labor group ” from the Buddha’s propagation of his doctrine in which any social classes can become liberal labor under  Buddhism in this third  group.! where all are treated with Equanimity and no monopoly !

I congratulate my Dharma friends  whom Guruji has attributed as praise worthy workers for having realized existing reality as well as the devine pride of being a human. !

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

Long live our beloved Guruji for upholding Dharma.

  5. Boying Baguio says:

    Dear Holy Guru,

    My greetings…

A wonderful moment to all brothers and sisters.

I was given the dharma name Tantra Maruta. I feel so grateful being welcomed and considered as one among the wonderful people in chanh tu duy. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much.

It wasn’t that much long ago yet when I was surprise by an invitation in Facebook by the name Violet Tran. It all started from having my comments sharing in some Buddhist articles. I can no longer remember what article it is but it was indeed the beginning of my knowing about Buddhism. I can say I haven’t gone that far yet, but for now I can feel how changes came in to me. My friend, Violet, render me the key to open my mind to learn and realized things that I’ve been unaware for quite long time. Being born and raised as a Roman Catholic, I leaned towards the belief that confused me and give me a lot of questions as I go along at my age. I grow up with people who have a strong belief of God, who are very much familiar with the phrases and parables of the Bible, and they look at themselves as holy and purely children of God. I studied in a private catholic school on my primary and secondary level. Uncertainly, I cannot memorized the mysteries of the rosary and pray with it on my own self alone. The more I read the bible, the more I rise up questions. I behaved in a manner that it seems I am seeking something that I do not know. There is something missing…there are a lot missing.

Until, I met a chance to know Buddhism. There was a post in Facebook about Albert Einstein saying that if there is a philosophy nearest to science, it is indeed Buddhism. That gave me an interest to read about it. I picked some books and open many articles in google. Though, I’ve heard about Buddhism before and seen more in movies, but my eagerness to go deeper on it was never been a choice. I started with the question in my mind, how is it differ from any other religions especially from Roman Catholic.

From my limited knowledge about the wonderful wisdom and teachings of Buddhism, I found out how it is to be differ as an individual from the belief that I happened to grow up. Some subtle things has started to get clearer. Many questions has started to be answered. Though I know there are still about to be answered as I go along learning more about the thought of Buddhism. As a grown Catholic I happened to depend my confused mind to a God that we usually pray to. Depending everything to him and hoping that a day would come when all the things we prayed for will be granted. But I realized this time that during subtle moments and confusing things are happening, no one should we need to talk to other than ourselves. We should know how to get in touch with the inner beings that we have inside us. By doing so, we will be able to nourished the calmness inside our mind. That in whatever stormy situations that we have in our outside world, if we know to hold the peace within us, that heavy situation will come to pass. Same thing if we find someone annoying and trying to provoke us to feel negative, get inside within you where the peace and light of calmness resides, and you’ll come to understand that the person who is trying to annoy you needs compassion and understanding instead of fighting it back.

I’m still novice in experiencing the world of Buddhism but I can feel the difference of being in the guidance of kind and wonderful thought of people who are in it. I have seen myself in a path of an eager student for great wisdom and thoughts that could definitely lead me into a peaceful manner of life. The world that I am living for now is full of questions, many provoking issues that could tends me to turn myself into a negative minded individual, but I believed that by continuing to open my mind for great knowledge, I will be calm.

So much more to learn, so much more to understand, so much more to absorb. My gratefulness to have a kind individual like my friend Mat Dieu Hanh, will forever be in me. My sincerest gratitude to the Holy Guru for allowing me to be a part of the chanhtuduy.com. Namaste..

    Om Mani Padme Hum
